Clinical significance
Determination of von Willebrand factor concentration and activity is performed in the diagnosis of hereditary von Willebrand disease. It is a disease belonging to plasma hemorrhagic diathesis, caused by deficiencyór or absence of von Willebrand factor. It manifests itself by a tendency to bleeding, easy bruising, the occurrence of petechiae on the skinór, in women by heavy menstruation. The von Willebrand factor can also be destroyed in the course of tumorsów and autoimmune diseases, in which case the disease is acquired. Conducting a von Willebrand factor antigen test makes it possible to make a diagnosis and implement appropriate treatment.
