Testing of anti-RH immune alloantibodies in blood.

The Rhesus system is a system of multiple antigens present on the surface of red blood cells. The standard way of evaluating the Rh phenotype is the D antigen presence. Rh+ individuals have the D antigen on their blood cells. Rh- individuals do not have anti-D antibodies.

This information is important in blood transfusions or in a pregnant woman pregnancy to prevent hemolysis of the blood or hemolytic disease of the newborn.
