Protein C is synthesized in the liver in the presence of vitamin K and is involved in blood clotting by limiting clot formation.
The test is performed in the diagnosis of thrombophilia (thrombosis). Protein C deficiency can cause deep and superficial vein thrombosis.
The test is performed to diagnose thrombophilia
The test is especiallylly recommended for patients who have a family history of venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism and are planning a pregnancy or taking hormonal contraception.
