- Test description
The complement component C3 (nephritic factor) is the the most important (central) component of complement, found in the Plasma in the highest amount. All activation pathways lead to production of the enzyme C3 convertase, which breaks down the C3 component into biologically active products (C3a, C3b). Activation of the C3 component determines all effector functions of complement. Deficiencies of this protein result in recurrent severe infections. C3 nephropathies are a group of diseases resulting from dysregulation of the function of the of the complement system, which is part of the human immune system immune system. Affected individuals are found to have reduced levels of the complement component of C3 of the complement. The main features of C3 nephropathy include proteinuria, hematuria, the formation of edema and a reduced amount of urine produced. Over time, there is a gradual deterioration of the renal function until it reaches end-stage renal failure. A significant reduction in factor C3 is observed in diseases of autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, glomerulonephritis nephritis), a slight decrease in liver diseases (chronic inflammation, post-alcoholic cirrhosis), an increase in patients in acute and chronic infections.
