Calprotectin’Alert® – Intestines is a specific immunodiagnostic test for detecting calprotectin in stool when its concentration exceeds 50 μg per gram of stool. Calprotectin is a key protein found in neutrophils, cells that appear at sites of inflammation. An elevated calprotectin level in stool indicates intestinal inflammation.

Calprotectin testing is a first-line diagnostic tool for suspected inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn’s disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), and colorectal cancer. The test helps distinguish irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) from inflammatory bowel diseases, reducing the need for invasive colonoscopy.

Symptoms and indications

• Persistent (4 weeks or more) or recurring (2 or more episodes within 6 months) diarrhea and abdominal pain
• Rectal bleeding
• Unintentional weight loss or anemia
• Loss of appetite
• Changes in bowel habits
• Family history of inflammatory bowel diseases
• Risk factors for colorectal cancer, including age over 50, smoking, overweight/obesity, lack of regular physical activity, alcohol consumption, and a poorly balanced diet high in saturated fats, simple sugars, and red meat.
