Clinical use
Chlorprotixene is a drug indicated for the treatment of endogenous and organic psychoses with states of agitation and aggressiveness, anxiety and insomnia in neuroses and psychosomatic disorders, alcoholic psychoses. Chlorprotixene is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is effective as early as 30 minutes after intake. It penetrates the blood-mózg barrier. It binds to plasma proteins (more than 99%). It is extensively metabolized in the liver and excreted as metabolitesów in the urine and feces. The biological pólence of the drug is 8 to 12 hours. The drug crosses the placental barrier and is secreted into breast milk in small amounts. Monitoring of the drug's serum concentration is used to select an appropriate individual dose and to confirm chlorprotixen poisoning.
