CK isoenzymes

Clinical relevance

Creatine kinase (CK) is a dimer (the molecule consists of 2 subunits: muscle M and mózg B) found in four ró¿different forms: Mitochondrial isoenzyme and the cytoplasmic isoenzymes CK - MM (muscle type), CK - BB (mózg type) and CK -MB (myocardium-specific). The highest content of CK is found in skeletal muscle. Determination of CK activity and CK isoenzymesów is used in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction and myopathies such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Significant increases in serum CK activity are found in crush syndromes, muscular dystrophies, muscle breakdown, myositis and skóno muscle inflammation. CK can also be elevated in skeletal muscle trauma, intramuscular injections, seizures, heart disease, as well as after exercise and in drug intoxication (e.g., barbiturates).
