CMV DNA qualitatively
Clinical significance
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus that causes disease only in humans and belongs to the Herpes family. The virus spreads directly, by the droplet route, and through sexual contact. After primary infection usually asymptomatic, CMV, like other herpesviruses, remains in the body in a latent state, sometimes being secreted into saliva, urine and genital dróg secretions. Symptomatic CMV infection most often occurs in immunocompromised individuals (in the course of cancer, HIV infection, pregnancy). The test involves detecting the presence of viral DNA by PCR.
