Clinical use
Amiodarone is a drug used to treat heart rhythm disorders. Amiodarone is used intravenously and orally. It is metabolized in the liver with the formation of an active metabolite. Indications for monitoring amiodarone serum levels include liver disease, heart failure and symptoms indicating toxic effects of the drug. Toxic effects of amiodarone include lung damage, thyroid dysfunction, visual disturbances and photosensitizing effects. Próblood samples should be drawn before the next dose of the drug is administered.
