EBV DNA qualitative
Clinical significance
Epstain-Barr virus (EBV) belongs to the herpes virus family and causes infectious mononucleosis. The source of infection is another human infected with the virus. Infection occurs mainly through saliva containing EBV viruses (so-called kissing disease). The disease begins with high fever, sore throat and enlargement of the lymph nodes of the neck. Most often, however, it is asymptomatic. The clinical picture of infectious mononucleosis can resemble bacterial tonsillitis. The test involves detecting the presence of viral DNA in the blood.
