Waking electroencephalography (EEG) for adults
The examination involves registering the changes in the electrical potential on the surface of the scalp, coming from the activity of neurons of the cerebral cortex. The examination is performed with the patient in a horizontal position, wearing a special cap with registering electrodes.
A medical prescription is required for the examination, with a clearly specified waking EEG service to be provided.
Encephalography is used, amongst others:
- in the diagnostics of epilepsy;
- in determining the causes of sleep disturbances;
- in assessing the condition of brain, e.g. after poisoning with neurotoxic substances, after neurosurgical operations;
- after head injuries;
- in frequent headaches.
The service above concerns waking electroencephalography (EEG). If you wish to schedule a sleep examination, choose the service: “Sleep electroencephalography (EEG)".
