Ferritin study
A test performed from the blood to determine ferritin levels.
The test is used in the diagnosis of anemia caused by iron deficiency and conditions caused by iron overload.
Ferritin what it is
Ferritin is a tissue protein that stores iron. It is found in large amounts in the liver, bone marrow, spleen, heart and kidneys. There is a relationship between the amount of iron reserves and ferritin concentration.
Measurements of ferritin concentration are used in assessing the amount of stored iron in the body, in diagnosing anemia caused by iron deficiency and conditions caused by iron overload.
