Diagnosis of bacterial vaginitis, so-called bacterial vaginosis.
It is a disorder of the vaginal microflora due to the proliferation of of anaerobic bacteria (such as Gardnerella vaginalis) and a decrease in the the number of Lactobacillus spp.
Gardnerella vaginalis is a relatively anaerobic gram variable that can cause bacterial vaginitis in women as a result of disruption of the normal vaginal microflora. Although they are usually isolated from genital swab cultures, they can also be detected in other samples: such as blood, urine and throat swabs.
