Gentamicin
Gentamycin belongs to the aminoglycoside antibiotics. Its action consists of penetrating into the interior of the bacterial cell and binding to the 30S subunit of the ribosome. As a result, it produces altered proteins, which, when incorporated into the bacterial cell wall increase its permeability and death of the bacterial cell Gentamicin is used for urinary tract and respiratory tract infections respiratory tract, septicemia, endocarditis, peritonitis, infections of bone, skin and soft tissues, as well as prophylactically in surgery, in the perioperative period. Side effects of antibiotics from the aminoglycoside group include nephrotoxicity (kidney-damaging effects damaging the kidneys) and ototoxicity (damaging the organ of hearing, often irreversible). Determination of gentamicin concentration is recommended when monitoring therapy with this antibiotic, in order to maintain therapeutic concentrations and in the diagnosis of overdose, especially in patients with impaired renal function.
