Blood glucose test

A test performed from the blood to determine fasting glucose levels.

Glucose measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with disorders of carbohydrate metabolism (diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia in newborns, idiopathic hypoglycemia) and in the monitoring of diabetes treatment.

Preventive screening (detection of diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions), as well as follow-up in at-risk patients and pregnant women are also indicated.

An increase in glucose levels is observed in:

• diabetes,
• disorders of pituitary and adrenal function,
• disorders of the pancreas,
• in patients on dialysis or during pregnancy,

Decreased glucose levels occur with:

• overdose of insulin,
• diabetic oral medications,
• in pituitary and adrenal hormonal insufficiency,
• in inborn metabolic blocks and in toxic liver damage,

Glucose test result

• The results of glucose test are available within 3 working days.
• It is possible to collect them at the reception desk of any Medicover Centre.
• The results can be accessed online. To do this, you have to visit the reception desk to generate a password in the Centre of your choice.
