Determination of Helicobacter pylori antigen in feces.
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium adapted to the conditions of the prevailing in the mucosa of the human stomach. It produces urease which breaks down urea to ammonia and bicarbonate, thereby alkalizes the pH in the stomach from its immediate environment.
Infection occurs from person to person, most commonly via the ingestion.
People infected with H.pylori have:
- inflammatory reaction of the mucosa,
- chronic gastritis,
- an inflammatory gastritis,
- ulcer disease,
- as a last resort, cancer,
The test is used in the diagnosis of primary infection with H pyloria and to evaluate the effectiveness of eradication of the bacteria.
