IgD
Clinical significance
Immunoglobulin IgD is most likely involved in activating and promoting the inflammatory response, but its role is still not fully understood. IgD-secreting cells are found in the mucosa of the górne dróg respiratory tract, where they are involved in bacterial uptake, so they increase resistance to infection. Determination of immunoglobulin D levels is particularlyóimportant when a rare hyper-IgD syndrome is suspected in children under one year of age. HIDS is a very rare metabolic disease, inherited autosomal recessively. The mutation involves the mevalonate kinase gene. The enzyme belongs to the metabolic pathway for the synthesis of important proteins such as ubiquinone, heme A and cholesterol. Clinically, the disease is characterized by recurrent episodes of high fever accompanied by a skin rash, enlargement of the cervical lymph nodes and gastrointestinal symptoms.
