The Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV) IgG test detects antibodies indicating a past infection with chickenpox or shingles, as well as acquired immunity.
When to Perform the Test
The test is useful in diagnosing primary VZV infection as well as reactivation of the infection. A temporary increase in IgG antibody levels indicates an appropriate immune response, and their presence is useful in assessing the post-vaccination response.
