Inhibin A
Clinical significance
Inhibin A concentration determination is used in risk assessment and diagnosis of pregnancy disorders and in monitoring high-risk pregnancies. Physiologically during pregnancy, inhibin A concentration in the pregnant woman's serum increases and reaches a maximum analogous to the concentration of free beta-hCG, then decreases in mid-pregnancy and increases before delivery. Decreased inhibin A concentrations occur in cases of an empty fetal egg, in ectopic pregnancies and in cases of threatened miscarriage. In pregnancies with hydrops, inhibin concentrations are significantly higher than in normal pregnancies.
