A dietician is a specialist dealing with the effects of nutrition on the human body. A dietician is responsible, amongst others, for the nutrition of individuals, collective nutrition, nutritional education and health promotion.
During an appointment, a dietician assesses the patient’s diet and presents dietary recommendations taking into account the patient’s lifestyle, body requirements, age and general health.
Moreover, a dietician gives advice related to conversion to vegetarianism or veganism, as well as advice to patients suffering from such medical problems as:
- gout;
- coeliac disease;
- gastroesophageal reflux;
- thyroid diseases;
- high cholesterol levels;
- allergy;
- irritable bowel syndrome;
- diabetes, insulin resistance;
- autoimmune diseases;
- anaemia;
- overweight, obesity.
During an appointment, the dietician:
- takes the patient’s medical history;
- calculates the patient’s body mass index (BMI) and the waist–hip ratio (WHR);
- gives the patient advice on healthy eating.
Dietary consultation is conducted by a specialist with a master’s degree in dietetics (human nutrition.
Patients must arrive not later than 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment.
