Lipoproteins, distribution in serum
Clinical significance
Lipids, due to the fact that they are insoluble in aqueous medium, are transported to target tissues in the form of lipoproteins - particles with an orchestrated structure and function. Lipoproteins are complexes composed of lipidsów and proteins called apolipoproteins. Lipoproteins according to the density of each class are divided into: chylomicrons - CHM, very low density lipoproteins - VLDL, intermediate density lipoproteins - IDL, low density liporoteins - LDL, high density lipoproteins - HDL. The role of each class of lipoproteins is orchestrated. VLDL and IDL have a function in the transport of fatty acidsóre into the cellsóre between meals, chylomicrons – transport of fatty acidsóre after a meal, LDL - transport of cholesterol into the cellsóre, HDL- are responsible for the return transport of cholesterol to the liver. The test is useful in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseasesób and lipid disorders.
Fasting intake is recommended, after a 12-hour fast.
