Clinical significance
Mitotane - a cytostatic drug used in the treatment of adrenal cancer. The action of the drug is to modify the metabolism of steroidsów and directly inhibit the function of the adrenal cortex. After the administration of mitotane, the metabolism of cortisol is altered, as a result, leading to a decrease in 17-hydroxyketosteroidów concentration even when the plasma concentration of steroidsów does not decrease. The drug is used in the symptomatic treatment of advanced adrenocortical cancer. Mitotate determination is performed to determine therapeutic concentrations.
