About the examination

What is an OCT examination?

OCT (optical coherence tomography of the eye) is a modern test used in the diagnosis of retinal diseases and evaluation of the optic nerve in the case of glaucoma.

During the examination, scans of a specific area of the eye are made using an optical beam. This allows an accurate assessment of specific parts of the retina and optic nerve for lesions, often impossible to detect during a standard ophthalmic examination.

The examination is painless and safe.

Important information

  • No referral for the examination is required.
  • The stay at the facility will last 30-60 minutes. If you use eye drops on a daily basis, bring them with you to the examination.
  • It is up to the doctor to decide whether pupil-dilating drops need to be administered. If the drops are given, you should not drive after the test.
  • The result of the examination in the form of a description is issued the same day.
