Who should take allergy tests?
Anyone who suspects they might have an allergy. The Allergy Test Package is suitable for everyone, regardless of age: allergy blood tests can also be performed on children.
When should you take allergy tests?
Symptoms of allergies may include:
- runny nose,
- sneezing attacks,
- headaches,
- skin changes — redness, rash, eczema,
- shortness of breath and breathing difficulties,
- bloating,
- nausea,
- swollen nasal mucosa,
- burning, itching, and watery eyes,
- swelling, feeling of heaviness,
- persistent cough,
- abdominal pain,
- diarrhea,
- vomiting.
Why should you take the Allergy Test Package?
With the package, you can check your reaction to 28 of the most common allergens, including: milk, animal dander, eggs, grass pollen, and many others. Allergies are becoming increasingly common: the number of affected people doubles every 10 years. In 15 years, every second European will suffer from its effects. This is due in part to rising air pollution. Knowing what causes your allergic reactions allows you to limit contact with specific allergens and start treatment that will improve your quality of life. It's important to remember that untreated allergies can lead to allergic asthma or chronic sinusitis.
Blood allergy tests, unlike skin allergy tests, do not carry the risk of an adverse reaction from contact with allergens. All parameters are measured from the blood, meaning the only discomfort for the patient is a slight prick during blood collection.
Allergy blood tests can also be performed on children!
How do allergy tests for children work with the Allergy Test Package?
- The collection takes place in familiar home surroundings.
- For infant allergy tests, the medical specialist collects blood from the elbow crease.
- The medical specialist may spend up to an hour on the blood collection for a child: this can be time to get to know the child and earn their trust or to answer parents' questions.
- Every brave patient receives a badge!
How to prepare for allergy blood tests?
- Schedule the collection in the morning.
- Fast for at least 12 hours before the tests.
- Drink a glass of water 30 minutes before the test, and stay hydrated throughout the day. This will help make the blood collection process smoother.
- Avoid intense physical activity the day before the tests. Try to rest shortly before the collection.
- Do you take medication? Consult your doctor about taking them before the test!
Full list of tests in the package:
- Total IgE a supplementary parameter in allergy diagnostics. This test measures the total number of IgE molecules regardless of their specificity (it does not identify the sources of allergy).
- Complete Blood Count (CBC) its results can signal allergic diseases. Allergies may cause changes in the white blood cell system (an increase in basophils and eosinophils).
- Pediatric Panel (28 allergens) pollen GX-grass (timothy grass, rye); pollen from birch and mugwort; two species of house dust mites (D. pteronyssinus, D. farinae); dander: dog, cat, horse; fungi (Cladosporium herbarium, Aspergillus fumigatus, Alternaria alternata); egg white and yolk; milk; alpha-lactalbumin (a whey protein mainly present in cow's milk and dairy products); beta-lactoglobulin (a whey protein present in cow’s milk and other mammalian milk); casein (a protein found mainly in cow's milk); bovine serum albumin (the main allergen in beef and a whey allergen in cow's milk); codfish; wheat; rice; soy; peanut, hazelnut; carrot; potato; apple; CCD (carbohydrate structures mainly found on plant allergens).
Factors that may affect the result
Some blood count parameters may show daily fluctuations, so the time of collection can affect the results.
Intense physical activity can distort the results. It leads to dehydration, which in turn affects the values of certain parameters.
Interpretation of results
High IgE levels are associated with a high likelihood of allergy. The specific allergens causing the reaction will be indicated by the individual allergen parameters.
With the Package, you get a free consultation of your results.
During the consultation, your uPacjenta Health Advisor will:
- thoroughly analyze your test results and explain the possible causes of any abnormalities;
- suggest more detailed diagnostic tests if necessary;
- advise on lifestyle changes to improve your health and well-being;
