Pediatric Panel – What Is It? 

The test involves measuring IgE antibodies in the blood and is used for allergy diagnosis and in the qualification process for desensitization. The pediatric panel is non-invasive – it is performed using a single blood sample, making it suitable even for young children. The results allow for the precise identification of allergens that may trigger symptoms such as rash, runny nose, cough, or breathing problems.  

The test provides reliable results even in cases of severe allergic reactions.

Pediatric Panel of 27 Allergens – Test Description 

The pediatric panel of 27 allergens is a specialized blood test for children that detects allergic reactions to 27 common allergens, both environmental and food-related. The test is safe and can be performed in young children, usually from around the 6th month of life, allowing for early detection of potential allergies and an appropriate response.  

The test covers a wide range of allergens, including: 

• Food proteins such as: alpha-lactoalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin, egg protein, casein, milk, beef serum albumin, egg yolk; 

• Food allergens such as: cod, apple, carrot, hazelnut, peanut, rice, soy, potato; 

• Environmental allergens such as: Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus fumigatus, birch, mugwort, Cladosporium herbarum, Dermatophagoides farinae, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, grass mix (meadow timothy, common rye), 

• Animal allergens such as: cat, dog, horse dander, and wheat flour. 

Allergy Tests for Children – Preparation  

For the pediatric panel, there is no need to stop medication, which is required for skin prick tests. However, it is advisable to consult a doctor regarding the use of medications before allergy testing. 

The child should be healthy before allergy testing. An infection may interfere with the test result. 

It is also a good idea to explain to the child what the pediatric panel entails to reduce any potential stress. 

Pediatric Panel – Results 

• The test result is available within 17 working days, 

• The results should be interpreted by a doctor who will recommend an appropriate treatment plan and management steps.

Pediatric Allergy Test – What Does the Examination Involve? 

• The blood sample collection takes only a few to several seconds. 

• Procedures related to the sample collection – skin disinfection, application of a tourniquet, and pressure on the collection site after the procedure – last a few minutes. 

• There are no contraindications to performing the test. 

Pediatric Panel – How to Read the Results?

The results of the pediatric panel indicate the presence or absence of an allergic reaction to specific allergens. Positive values for a given allergen mean that the child has IgE antibodies reacting to that substance, which suggests an allergy. The antibody levels are usually presented in categories (e.g., from 0 to 6), where a higher number indicates a stronger allergic reaction. However, the interpretation of the results should always be performed by a doctor, who will consider all symptoms and the child's full clinical picture.
