When to use lactation counseling?
Lactation counseling is a service provided by a midwife, aimed at breastfeeding patients. It is advisable to take advantage of the advice when there are doubts about proper feeding of the baby or difficulties such as:
- breast pain,
- injured nipples,
- breast inflammation,
- milk shortage,
- excess milk,
- reluctance of the baby to suck,
- whooping of the baby while eating.
What does a lactation consultation look like?
During the visit, the midwife:
- assesses the general and mental state of the mother,
- examines the breasts,
- observes and examines the baby,
- assesses the suckling function and the course of feeding,
- gives detailed recommendations,
- provides explanations and answers the patient's questions.
