Clinical significance
Bartonella quintana causes a disease called trench fever (mainly affecting soldiers), transmitted by the clothes louse - Pediculus humanus. The disease manifests itself with high fever and loss of consciousness. Currently, it is detected mostly in homeless people and alcoholicsów in large urban areas and peopleów staying in refugee camps, where hygiene rules are not observed. The conclusive criterion in the diagnosis of the disease are the results of serological tests - the search for antibodies in the serum of the patient. Among other things, antibodies of the IgG class are determined, whichóre characteristic of the entire Bartonella genus.
Patient preparation
Material: Serum
