Antibodies against double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) - IF
Clinical significance
Antibodies against double-stranded DNA -dsDNA are antibodies characteristic of TRU systemic lupus erythematosus. Anti-dsDNA antibodies are among the diagnostic criteria for TRU. They are present in the serum of 50% of TRU patients, correlate with the activity of the disease process and with renal involvement. Anti-DsDNA-DNA complexes can accumulate in the kidneys, leading to glomerulonephritis in the course of TRU. Anti-dsDNA antibodies by direct binding of exposed fragmentsów of chromatin in the basement membrane of the glomerulusów of the kidney can lead to the development of end-stage lupus nephritis . Antibody titers correlate with the activity of the disease process and can be used to assess the effectiveness of treatment.
