Clinical significance
Legionella pneumophila - a bacterium that causes respiratory diseases Legionellosis. There is a severe form of infection - Legionistów disease and a mild form - Pontiac fever. Legionnairesów disease is an inflammation of the lungs, often with an acute course, with additional symptoms from the gastrointestinal, nervous and respiratory systems. Pontiac fever is a disease manifested by flu-like symptoms, sometimes there may also be gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The test involves the detection of IgM class antibody. IgM antibodies appear 2-3 weeks after infection. The diagnostic value is in the dynamics of the increase in antibody titers. An increase in titer in subsequent determinations indicates active infection.
