Individual psychotherapy
Depending on the problem and its severity, there are different types and methods of psychotherapy. The most popular methods include psychodynamic, humanistic, systemic, and cognitive-behavioural therapies, as well as psychotherapy and solution-focused therapy.
Individual psychotherapy involves direct contact between the therapist and the patient. They build a common space within which they move during the therapy.
In the beginning, the therapist enters into the so-called contract with the patient. It specifies the frequency and duration of the psychotherapy, its rules and principles, as well as the potential it offers. The greatest advantage of individual psychotherapy is the focus on a concrete problem experience by a single individual. There is no place for side stories. The therapist focuses his/her entire attention on the patient s/he works with. The therapist is well familiarised with the thoughts and emotions, knows what to expect from his/her patient’s reaction, and the atmosphere of intimacy promotes a more open relationship and mutual trust.
Psychotherapy is used to improve the well-being and mental health, develop social relations and skills, and may involve changing or coping with one’s annoying behaviours, beliefs, obsessions, thoughts or emotions.
Psychotherapy is a good solution for the treatment of such disturbances as depression, anxiety, neurosis, phobia and eating disorders. It helps when the patient fails to emotionally cope with certain situations in life, e.g. s/he is mourning, lost his/her motivation to act, has become dependent on something, feels helpless, and cannot get out of difficult relationships (e.g. at work). Psychotherapy may also neutralise somatic symptoms. It also provides effective support in the treatment of diseases of a completely different origin, for instance, asthma, migraines, allergies, atopic dermatitis or circulatory conditions. The therapy changes the patient’s attitude towards treatment, which is extremely important, for instance, in the case of oncological patients.
Patients must arrive not later than 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment.
