- Product description
Rabies is a viral disease for which there is no cure and it results in death in 100% of cases.
Rabies is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected animal – such as a dog, fox, bat, or other wild species. After infection, the patient experiences irritability, headache, loss of appetite, and tingling at the bite site. Subsequently, symptoms like photophobia, hydrophobia, bouts of rage, paralysis, and difficulty swallowing may occur.
Who should get the rabies vaccination?
The rabies vaccine should be taken by:
- people bitten by animals with unknown rabies vaccination status;
- employees of animal shelters, veterinarians, and laboratory workers;
- people traveling to endemic regions – countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and some Eastern European countries;
- tourists and travelers in areas with wild animals.
Important information
Pre-travel vaccination includes three doses – first dose (day 0), second dose (day 7), third dose (day 21 or 28). This vaccination schedule ensures long-lasting protection against rabies. After completing the schedule, in the event of potential exposure to the virus, only two booster doses may be required. To ensure full protection against rabies, the pre-travel vaccination should start at least 1 month before departure.
Post-bite vaccination includes five doses – first dose (day 0), second dose (day 3), third dose (day 7), fourth dose (day 14), fifth dose (day 28). The vaccine is administered intramuscularly. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any component of the vaccine.
