- Test description
Renin
Clinical significance
Renin is produced in the glomerular cells of the ductus arteriosus in the kidney, functionally it has enzyme-hormonal functions. It is part of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone (RAA) system. This system regulates the concentration of electrolytesów in the blood and controls the volume of blood circulating in the vessels. The renin assay can replace the plasma renin activity assay in screening patientsów with suspected primary hyperaldosteronism, whichós one of the causes of hypertension. The aldosterone/renin ratio is used, allowing to exclude patientsów with an aldosterone-producing adenoma with almost 100% probability.
Patient preparation
take in the morning, fasting, body position during collection (supine or upright)
Material: EDTA plasma
