Cephalometric X-ray
A patient must attend the examination with a valid referral and previous test results (if any).
Its purpose is to diagnose malocclusion and determine orthodontic needs. It shows the image of the skull, soft and hard tissues of the face, the area of the palate and paranasal sinuses. Cephalometric X-ray is usually performed in lateral view. With such diagnostics, it is possible to take the measurements necessary for selecting and adjusting the braces.
How is the cephalometric examination performed?
It is performed with a cephalostat in a standing position with the Frankfurt plane aligned horizontally relative to the floor. The patient clenches their teeth during the examination, and a special ruler with a scale is placed near the patient's forehead for the orthodontist to make calculations.
Duration of examination: about 20 minutes.
If you need a more comprehensive examination that will also show the image of the area of the jaw, mandible, temporomandibular joints and maxillary sinuses - choose the panoramic + cephalometric X-ray package.
