The dog dander and epidermis test is a blood allergy test. The test determines the dander allergen Canis.
Although there may be differences between breeds, all dogs produce allergenic proteins found in the epidermis, dander or saliva. The test involves the determination of IgE antibodies in the blood and is performed when an allergy to dog dander and epidermis is suspected. The advantage of the test is that antihistamines do not have to be discontinued. Blood allergen testing is also used to qualify for desensitization of dog dander and epidermis allergies.
It is also recommended for the diagnosis of allergenic agents in children under the age of 4 years.
