Rapid test for adenovirus and RSV
Test for the qualitative detection of RSV and adenovirus antigens – microorganisms causing respiratory infections – and for their differentiation.
Adenoviruses are common viruses that cause infections of the respiratory tract (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia), gastrointestinal tract and eyes (keratitis, conjunctivitis). Adenovirus infections most often affect children between 6 months and 5 years. Infections occur throughout the year, but outbreaks are most common in autumn, winter and spring. Adenoviruses are estimated to cause about 5% of upper respiratory tract infections and 10% of pneumonia in children. These viruses can be particularly dangerous for newborns and immunocompromised persons.
RS virus (respiratory syncytial virus, RSV) is highly contagious and causes respiratory infections. In older children and adults, these infections are harmless, but in newborns and infants, they can be serious. In chronically ill or immunocompromised children and premature babies, RSV infection can cause serious complications (such as apnoea) and the need for hospitalization. It is estimated that nearly 50% of children before 1 year of age and almost 100% of children before 2 years of age have recovered from RSV infection. Infections occur throughout the year with the peak prevalence in winter.
