Platelet-rich plasma therapy
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a modern, safe treatment method that is based on the use of the natural properties of human blood. It is primarily used for patients with diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Platelet-rich plasma can also be used to accelerate tissue healing after surgery.
When is platelet-rich plasma therapy used?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy has regenerative, anti-inflammatory, restorative and analgesic effects. It is used in patients for such conditions as:
- degenerative joint changes,
- articular cartilage damage,
- golfer's or tennis elbow,
- jumper's knee,
- Achilles tendon inflammation or injury,
- plantar fasciitis,
- heel spurs,
- shoulder injuries,
- cruciate and collateral ligament injuries,
- spinal pain syndromes.
Note: It is possible to start platelet rich plasma therapy only after qualification at an earlier appointment with an orthopedist. If you are not yet after qualification, be sure to schedule it!
Platelet rich plasma therapy - advantages.
- Safety - no risk of allergic reactions, infections, etc.
- Application in many musculoskeletal disorders
- High effectiveness of therapy - about 90%.
- Long-lasting effects
- Slight painfulness of the procedure
- Short period of convalescence after the procedure
What does the treatment look like?
During the procedure, the patient's blood is drawn. Then platelet-rich plasma is extracted from it, which contains large amounts of platelets that stimulate regenerative processes in the body. Then, using a syringe with a needle, the platelet-rich plasma is applied to the affected tissues. This can be done under ultrasound guidance or without it, depending on the injection site. Finally, a sterile dressing is applied.
