Test description

Antigenic test for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus what is it?

Antigenic tests are a separate group of serological tests. The test material is a nasopharyngeal swab. The test evaluates the presence of viral elements (specific proteins that build up the nucleocapsid, or envelope, RNA material) in the body of the patient being tested.

When to perform the antigen test for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus?

The antigen test does not require complicated instrumentation and laboratory procedures. The antigen test has high sensitivity and specificity, which greatly facilitates the successful diagnosis of COVID-19.

Who should take an antigen test for coronavirus?

Antigenic test has shown the highest efficacy in detecting SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection at the early stages of the disease, i.e., SARS-CoV-2. up to 5-7 days from the onset of symptoms - this is when the virus multiplies most intensively, and the concentration of proteins that build this pathogen in infected cells is highest, which significantly increases the likelihood of successful detection of the disease.
The test is used to make a diagnosis of currently ongoing SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection in individuals exhibiting symptoms that could suggest COVID-19.

Additionally, it is possible to confirm asymptomatic infection when a person's history indicates a risk of coronavirus infection (e.g., prolonged contact with a sick person).

To date, this type of testing has recommendations from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health.
