TOXO (Toxoplasmosis) IgG Avidity

Test for the strength and durability of binding specific IgG antibodies produced by the body in response to contact with the parasite Toxoplasma gondii (a protozoan), which causes toxoplasmosis.

When to Perform the Test

This test is important for pregnant women, as it helps determine whether T. gondii infection occurred before pregnancy or during its course. It can also be performed to clarify an uncertain serological status of the individual being tested.

Symptoms

Toxoplasmosis may present with symptoms such as low-grade fever or fever, joint and muscle pain, general malaise and weakness, skin changes (rashes), and lymphadenopathy. In newborns, symptoms may include retinal and brain lesions, encephalitis, microcephaly, hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, delayed psychomotor development, and epilepsy.
