Elbow joint ultrasonography - Rehasport
The elbow joint ultrasonography allows for assessing muscles, tendons and ligaments in acute and chronic cases. It also allows for detecting intra-articular exudation, possible loose bodies and cysts. The ultrasonography involves an assessment of the joint’s structures using a ultrasound scanner. During the examination, which is painless and non-invasive, the patient is sitting with the examined limb extended towards the doctor. The elbow joint ultrasonography is very useful in the diagnostics of common injuries of athletes, i.e. “golfer elbow” and “tennis elbow”. After the examination, the doctor develops an impression, attaches the image and gives it to the patient.
Contraindications for an ultrasonography examination
- a relative contraindication for performing an ultrasonography examination are open, unhealed wounds at the examined spot
