Red Bean F287
Clinical Purpose
Test for the presence of specific IgE against red bean allergens. Allergic diseases are among one of the most common conditions of modern civilization. It is estimated that between 10-30% of the population suffers from allergies, depending on the form of the condition. Most allergic diseases are chronic and require years of treatment. Allergy, or hypersensitivity, is an excessively heightened response of the immune system upon contact with a foreign antigen (allergen). Allergens bind to specific antibodies from the immunoglobulin E group. Allergy diagnosis uses determinations of total IgE and specific IgE concentration, i.e. antibodies directed against specific allergens (sensitizing substances). These determinations are an alternative to skin tests (they exclude false-negative results in people with extensive skin tests or in patients with skin hyperreactivity). They are safe and can be performed in anyone regardless of age, including patientsów requiring continuous administration of anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory drugs (these drugs do not affect the results of IgE determinations).
