- Test description
Parrot pióra E213
Clinical significance
The test involves the determination of IgE specific for an inhalant allergen, the source of which is parrot feathers. The test is used to confirm or exclude type I hypersensitivity (means the presence of symptoms of the disease after contact with a very small amount of a given substance, to which non-sensitized people do not react) to the allergen present in parrot feathers. Determination in serum of allergen-specific IgE class antibodies can be performed as an alternative to other allergy tests in patientsów with severe dermatitis or eczema, who are taking histamine drugs or antidepressants that may hinder other tests, or if performing another test carries the risk of triggering a dangerous allergic reaction in the patient. A negative result indicates the absence of an allergy, that is, an IgE-induced response by the body to a particular allergen. However, even in the case of a negative IgE result, there is a small probability of an allergy. An elevated level usually indicates an allergy, but even in the case of a positive IgE result, there is no assurance that the patient will not develop an allergic reaction after exposure to the allergen.
