Test description

Pancreatic amylase what is it?

Amylase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes starch and is produced in the pancreas and saliva. Amylase enters the blood if there is a duct obstruction or cell necrosis occurs. It is then excreted in the urine (with a delay of 8-10 hours).

In renal failure, urinary amylase has normal values or is reduced, while in plasma it may be increased A similar phenomenon is observed in macroamylasemia.
