Lyme disease test
Lyme disease is a multi-organ infectious disease caused by bacteria (Borrelia spirochetes) that enter our body through a tick bite. The tick's saliva contains components that interfere with the immune system's response, making it easier for the spirochetes to enter our body. In just a few weeks after a bite, the bacteria can spread to the joints, heart, nervous system and even cross the blood-brain barrier.
Lyme disease symptoms
The most typical symptom of Lyme disease is the occurrence of the so-called "erythema migrans," which looks like a red spot that gradually spreads and fades in the center. However, such erythema occurs only in 70-80% of cases of Lyme disease infection. Once the spirochete enters the body, the most common symptoms are:
- Headache
- Back pain
- Muscle aches
- Joint pain
- Apathy
- Feverishness
- Neck stiffness
- Lymph node enlargement
Additionally, there may be joint symptoms, such as transient joint swelling, cardiac symptoms such as pericarditis or ocular symptoms. The most dangerous are symptoms from the central nervous system.
