Lyme Disease Testing – Description

The Lyme disease testing package involves taking a blood sample and analyzing it for the presence of IgM and IgG antibodies. Laboratory tests in the Lyme Disease package are characterized by high sensitivity.

How to Prepare for Lyme Disease Testing?

Tests for Lyme disease should be performed on an empty stomach, meaning no food or drinks should be consumed for about 12 hours before the blood sample is taken.

How Much Does a Lyme Disease Test Cost? 

The cost of a Lyme disease test starts from 110 PLN, with prices depending on the location of the facility. For example, in Kielce, the price is from 110 PLN, whereas in most larger cities such as Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Katowice, Szczecin, and others, the cost starts from 120 PLN. 

What Blood Tests Are Used for Lyme Disease? 

Blood tests for Lyme disease include the ELISA test, which detects antibodies against Borrelia bacteria, responsible for Lyme disease. If the result is positive or uncertain, a confirmatory test using the Western Blot method is recommended. 

When Should You Test for Lyme Disease? 

Blood tests for Lyme disease are worth considering if symptoms such as an erythema migrans rash, fever, muscle and joint pain, or a feeling of chronic fatigue appear after a tick bite. Even if several weeks have passed since the bite, but unusual symptoms occur, a Lyme disease test can help confirm or rule out infection and enable prompt treatment. 

How Soon After a Tick Bite Should You Test for Lyme Disease? 

The Lyme disease test is best performed about 4–6 weeks after a tick bite. Why? After a tick bite, Borrelia bacteria remain in the skin for several days before spreading to organs and tissues via the bloodstream. 

If the test is performed immediately after the tick bite, the body may not have had enough time to produce detectable antibodies. As a result, even if infection has occurred, the test may yield a false negative. In such cases, the test should be repeated after 2–3 weeks.
