The thyroid package includes laboratory tests:
|
Basic Thyroid Profile – Indications
Measuring hormone levels that affect thyroid function allows for the quick detection of thyroid dysfunction — hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Thyroid diseases do not always have clear symptoms, so it is important to perform regular preventive tests. The Basic Thyroid Profile aims to detect thyroid dysfunction at an early stage.
The thyroid package is worth performing if:
-
You notice symptoms suggesting thyroid dysfunction, such as weight loss or gain, excessive sweating, irritability, hand tremors, insomnia, fatigue, dry skin, cold sensitivity, etc.
- You belong to a risk group – people with a family history of thyroid disease, pregnant women, people with autoimmune diseases, or heart conditions.
TSH, FT3, FT4 Tests – How to Prepare?
At least 2–3 days before the test, you should refrain from consuming alcohol. Blood should be drawn in a fasting state, meaning at least 10 to 12 hours after the last meal. The patient should also avoid drinking coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, and juices during this time. Water is allowed.
Furthermore, as much as possible, it is advisable to eliminate stress and excessive physical exertion. On the day of the test, it is a good idea to arrive earlier and rest for 10–15 minutes before the blood draw. A small amount of water may be consumed before the blood test.
Regarding medication, this is an individual matter, and each case should be consulted with a doctor, who will recommend whether to have blood drawn before or after the morning dose of medication based on the patient’s condition and the test indications.
Due to the fasting requirement and the organization of collection point working hours, it is recommended to have the thyroid tests done in the morning hours.
What does the TSH, FT3, FT4 Test Involve?
The test is performed with a venous blood sample.
Thyroid Panel – Results
Expected result waiting time: 2 business days.
TSH, the pituitary hormone, regulates thyroid activity, and the level of FT4 reflects its hormonal activity. Deviations from normal values may indicate hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Additionally, an elevated level of anti-TPO antibodies suggests the presence of an autoimmune thyroid disease, such as Hashimoto's disease.
TSH, FT3, FT4 – Norms
The normal ranges for thyroid hormones TSH, FT3, and FT4 are crucial for diagnosing and monitoring thyroid function.
TSH, or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, typically falls in the range of 0.4–4.0 mIU/L.
FT4, free thyroxine, typically ranges from 0.9 to 1.7 ng/dL.
FT3, free triiodothyronine, typically ranges from 2.0 to 4.4 pg/mL.
Remember, these values are approximate, as differences in laboratory standards may result in slight variations.
Thyroid Package TSH, FT3, FT4 – Price
The cost of the thyroid profile may vary depending on the selected laboratory and location, but prices usually start at around 76 PLN to 80 PLN.
