- Test description
Borrelia burgdorferi is the spirochete that causes Lyme Disease (Lyme disease). The vector that transmits the spirochete is ticks. Lyme disease is a multisystem disease, in the course of which one can distinguish between successive stages of development resulting in the involvement of various systems and the occurrence of complications. Detection of antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi by Western Blot is a confirmatory test, when antibodies by ELISA are detected or the result obtained in this test will be positive or doubtfully positive (borderline value) Western Blot shows a much higher, at least 95%, specificity. Western blot (WB) is a test that confirms the result of the screening test (ELISA) and should not be used on its own, bypassing the first step of the diagnostic test diagnostic test, i.e. the ELISA test.
