Candidiasis (thrush) - an infection caused by fungi of the genus Candida, most often of the Candida albicans (C. albicans) species. C. albicans inhabits the human large intestine, the mucous membranes of the mouth, esophagus, respiratory drg and, in women, the vagina, where, as a commensal yeast, it is part of the physiological microflora.
In peopleb with weakened immune systems or with impaired intestinal bacterial flora, it can cause opportunistic infection.
Microbiological tests allow for the presence of Candida fungis (colonization), they do not allow for the diagnosis of invasive infection. D-arabinitol is a metabolite of most pathogenic Candidaspecies: C. albicans, as well as Candida tropicalis, Candida parapsilosis, Candida pseudotropicalis and Candida lusitaniae. Determination of D-arabinitol in urine allows detection of Candida infection.
It is advisable to perform this determination in peopleb with a weakened or disturbed immune system, in the presence of chronic mycoses, in diabetics, in peopleb with inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, digestive disorders and in dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal tract.
The use of cytostaticss and immunosuppressive drugss and long-term antibiotic therapy is also an indication for performance.
