What is esperal implant insertion ?

Esperal implant insertion is a quick, painless procedure that can take place after several conditions are met by both the doctor and the patient. To make the treatment effective and safe,
the patient should follow the following recommendations:

• maintaining 24-hour abstinence before the procedure,
• prohibition of consumption of any alcoholic beverages
• within 12 months, starting from the day of alcoholic sewing,
• signing an informed consent for pharmacological treatment of alcoholic disease,
• proper care of the pill implantation site for at least 2 weeks after the procedure,
• proper nutrition during treatment and avoidance of certain products,
• continuing to treat the alcohol disease with psychotherapy.

What should be avoided during alcohol implant treatment?

• low- and high-alcohol drinks,
• sweets with alcohol (cakes, candies, etc.), vinegar,
• sauces for food that contain even a small amount of alcohol in their composition,
• mouthwash (as long as it contains alcohol),
• certain ointments and creams (especially warming ones),
• cough syrups,
• other alcohol-based medicines or cosmetics,
• perfumes or disinfectant applied directly to the skin may cause an allergic reaction
• allergic reaction-these should be avoided during the first months after implantation,
• non-alcoholic beer.
   

When does the alcohol implant take effect?

The pills are implanted under the fascia of the gluteal muscle. The period of action of the drug in the patient's body is 8-12 months (depending on the metabolism of each person). The alcoholic implant starts
effective immediately after implantation and suturing of the wound. The active substance of the drug Disulfiram is absorbed into the body, enters the bloodstream and chemically reacts only with the ethyl fluid, causing unpleasant discomfort (side effects), resembling the symptoms of a hangover. For this reason, all instructions given by the doctor (especially about the prohibition of alcohol consumption) should be taken into account as soon as you leave the doctor's office. Over the course of a year, the concentration of the drug in the body decreases and after 12 months it is completely gone. If necessary, the implantation procedure can be repeated even 8 months after the previous suturing.

How to take care of the wound?

During the implantation of Disulfiram, the doctor gives the patient a local anesthetic, after which he makes a small incision and inserts the pills. After the procedure, a scar of a maximum of 1.5 - 2 cm is left on the patient's left buttock. The wound heals quickly and painlessly, but it is worth contributing to its faster healing. In order to avoid complications, the doctor gives the patient recommendations on the hygiene of the wound after the implantation:

- bathing in standing water (bathtubs, pools, Jacuzzis and reservoirs) is prohibited for 2 weeks after the procedure,
- showering with natural soap is recommended,
- after bathing, the wound should be dried with a disposable paper towel and disinfected with Octanisept. Then apply a sterile dressing,
- at home it is recommended to "air the wound", that is, to walk without a dressing,
- a few days after the procedure (preferably until the wound is completely healed) it is not recommended to perform heavy physical work, lifting weights,
- when choosing the version of sutures with non-dissolvable stitches, it is worth remembering to remove the stitches 10-14 days after the Disulfiram implantation procedure. To do this, we recommend going to the same clinic where the procedure was performed
