Clinical significance
Fluoride - is involved in the normal mineralization of teethów and bones, is a component of fluoroapatite and affects the hardness of enamel. Deficiency of fluoride results in reduced hardness of toothów enamel and lower bone strength and in children leads to the development of próchnica. Excessive supply results in, among other things, stiffening of the spine, reduced mobility of jointsów and with chronic poisoning there can be disorders in bone metabolism, kidney function, the nervous system and the muscular system. Determination of the concentration of fluoride in blood serum is used in monitoring the amount of fluoride in the body during the use of fluoride preparations in the prevention of dental diseases. The test is useful in monitoring the administration of fluoride preparations and in individualsób exposed to increased fluoride exposure.
