Hydrochlorothiazide
Clinical use
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (i.e., diuretic) in the thiazideów group. The action of drugsów diuretics is to increase the volume of urine excreted. Hydrochlorothiazide is used in the treatment of hypertension (zarówno as the only drug or in combination with other drugs) and edema in congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, renal dysfunction (e.g., nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis). Hydrochlorothiazide after oral administration is absorbed 65 - 75% in unchanged form is excreted by the kidneys. The póltration period is about 2.5 hours. The diuresis effect is evident after about 1 - 2 h. The therapeutic effect with small doses may not occur until several days later. Hydrochlorothiazide can cause electrolyte disturbances in the body. Determination of the drug in urine is used to confirm its overdose.
